Mechanic Lien Litigation:Biddeford, Maine Our client, Environ Services, Inc., responded to a call from the Biddeford Code Enforcement Department to demolish the Mahaney Building, which had been severely damaged by a fire. At the time Environ was engaged by the City to do the demolition and hazardous materials removal, downtown Biddeford was threatened with substantial disruption and safety risks, as the building's structural integrity was compromised by the fire. When our client billed the City for the work, the City forwarded the bill to the property owner. But when the insurance company for the owner failed to pay for the demolition work, the City then backtracked on its obligation to pay. We filed a mechanic lien against the owner's property and a claim for breach of contract against the city, and with the pressure of the lawsuit we have arranged payment from the City. |
