Summer 2008:Portland, Maine Avast...In the only federal civil case in recent memory involving a pirate ship, Richard Olson and Jackie Elliopulos won judgment on all counts after a trial in Federal District Court in Portland for our client. Our Client had designed and constructed a vessel for ''pirate theme excursions'' and leased it to an operator in Fort Lauderdale. The Lessor apparently took the pirate act a bit too seriously and defaulted on the lease payments. After a trial which included testimony regarding a pirate ''cannon'', quirky coast guard regulations and the application of the Uniform Commercial Code to the lease of a pirate ship, Judge Hornby found in favor of our client. Unfortunately ''walking the plank'' is not a remedy available under applicable law for breach of a pirate ship lease so the Client had to accept monetary damages. See Culebra II, LLC v.
